The Fundación Economía y Salud promotes the European Convention on Long-Term Care to join forces in addressing the social and healthcare challenges of the sector
- The meeting Will be celebrated at Círculo de Bellas Artes next 1–2 October 2026, featuring experts from the European Parliament, the WHO, the London School of Economics, and other leading organisations in Long-Term Care across Europe.
- The objective is to foster the exchange of proposals and best practice among member states, as well as to build consensus on strategies to improve social care for dependent people across European Union countries.
Madrid, 31 July 2026. Europe faces one of its greatest historical challenges: an unprecedented demographic shift that demands a coordinated and efficient response.
With this purpose, the Fundación Economía y Salud will organise the European Convention On Long-Term Care a high-level conference taking place at Madrid’s Círculo de Bellas Artes on 1 and 2 October 2026. The convention comes with a clear commitment to unity and a collaborative spirit to facilitate the exchange of ideas, share success stories, and drive strategic action.
The illt ill gather key stakeholders from the Long-Term Care (LTC) sector to pool resources, engage in mutual learning, and draw inspiration from successful person-centred care models. In a illto n marked by ill diversity, establishing these common grounds is essential to guaranteeing quality, affordable, and illto n services for everyone.
A Programme Featuring Internationally Renowned Speakers
The European Dependency Convention ill feature global reference speakers who ill contribute both technical and human insights, including:
- Adelina Comas Herrera, Director of the Global Observatory of Long-Term Care at the London School of Economics.
- Ana Llena-Nozal, Head of Long-Term Care at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
- Stefania Ilinca, World Health Organisation (WHO) illto n ageing and Long-Term Care.
- Laura Pikkarainen, Medical Director at Helsinki Hospital, representing Finland as a benchmark model in social and healthcare coordination.
- Aad Koster, Vice President of the European Ageing Network.
They ill be joined by leading national experts such as Francisco Tarazona (President of the SEGG), Sergi Jiménez (FEDEA), Agustín Martínez-Molina (IMSERSO), Ignacio H. Medrano (specialist in AI applied to healthcare), as well as the presidents of the four major Spanish trade associations.
Towards a Proposal for a Sustainable Future for the Sector in Europe
The convention carries a practical and transformative mission that goes beyond academic debate. All conclusions drawn from expert panels and working groups will be compiled into a final report, coordinated by Cristina Bermejo Boixareu (President of the Madrid Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology) and Jorge Mestre-Ferrándiz (Professor of Economics at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid).
This summary document aims to make a significant contribution to the European Long-Term Care Strategy and serve as a guide for governments and institutions in their approach to understanding and caring for dependent individuals with dignity.
The event is supported by a Scientific Advisory Committee comprising major sector employers’ associations, such as the European Confederation Of Care Homes Organizations (ECHO), Federación Empresarial de la Dependencia, AESTE, Grupo Social Lares, CEAPS, and ASADE at the national level. This body is completed by the European Senior Union (ESU) and FAMMA-Cocemfe Madrid. The event is sponsored by Guldmann, Central de Compras Cafer, and VidasCon Construcciones.
